Hot Air Balloon Rides

Quechee Balloon Rides and Balloons over New England offer hot air balloon tours. These balloon rides are some of the most popular tourist activities in the area, so book early if you want to float over the Green Mountains and the Ottauquechee River. Rides are weather dependent.

Fly Fishing

The stretch of the White River between Granville and Hancock and Bethel (Nova’s hometown) and Stockbridge boast some of the best fly fishing in the area. If you are interested in casting a fly, let us know and we can give you more precise directions.

Blueberry Picking

Jacob and Nova love picking blueberries and making homemade jam. Making delicious low-sugar jams is yet another one of Jacob’s many culinary talents. Late July is the beginning of blueberry picking season in Vermont. Depending on where you are staying and the other activities you are planning on enjoying in the area, you might consider adding in a blueberry picking pit stop. It is always a good idea to call ahead to ensure they are not picked out. The following pick-your-own berry patches offer a great excuse to be outside:

Edgewater Farm:
246 NH Route 12A, Plainfield, NH 03781
(603) 298-5764

Moore’s Orchard:
109 Johnson Rd, North Pomfret, VT 05053
(802) 457-2994

Canoeing

There are lots of wonderful bodies of water to explore by canoe, though water levels can be low in July. One of the easiest places to rent a canoe is at the Ledyard Canoe Club at Dartmouth College, which is located on the banks of the Connecticut River. Dartmouth is 30 minutes away from the Farmhouse Inn.

You can also rent canoes from Tweed River Tubing in Stockbridge, also about 30 minutes away.

Tubing

Floating down a river in an inflated truck tube is one of life’s simple pleasures. The White River is the best river around for tubing. You can rent tubes from Vermont River Tubing or from Tweed River Tubing. The latter is owned by former hippies. To ensure availability and to check conditions, calling both outfitters before you make the trip is recommended.
